|Welcome To GamesCache.co.uk|
What was previously our geocaching-specialist site (geocachingcentre.co.uk) has just been expanded to cover a range of indoor family games too! Still run from Somerset as part of a family business and staffed by keen game players and geocachers. If you are looking for an alternative to the X-Box and Playstation, you should find something here of interest.
Geocaching is great fun for days out with friends and family, a global treasure hunt with millions of players. For evenings at home or down the pub, board games are enjoying something of a revival and there are many new ones being developed all the time. We have a selection of some of the most popular ones.
Please note that UK postage and packing (except Highlands and Islands) is included in the prices shown, so no nasty surprises at the checkout - however due to recent postage price hikes for small packets of the type we often send to geocachers, there is a £7 minimum order. If you are overseas, the checkout will calculate the shipping cost by weight for you. We accept credit and debit cards, and also Paypal with a small surcharge. Items will be with you within about 3-5 days of ordering.
Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity involving the use of handheld GPS devices to look for hidden containers ("geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. Caches are usually small waterproof containers with a logbook and often contain items for trading, usually toys or low-value trinkets. All global geocaches are marked on www.geocaching.com and there is probably one not far from where you are right now.
It's an ideal activity for families and groups of friends for a weekend or holiday afternoon - choose an area, download some cache details to your GPS, visit the starting location and then simply follow the arrow on your GPS device to the cache. Many searches will take you to interesting and unusual places. For the last 50 feet or so (the accuracy level of the satellite system) you will be on your own, looking under logs, in tree stumps or other typical hidey-holes!
UK CACHE MAG
We have a limited number of copies of the first edition of the new UK Cache Magazine kindly supplied by the editor, you can order one in the Geocaching section.
Board games have been around since the dawn of civilisation. Chess, Mancala, and Go are pretty ancient, but probably the most well known modern ones are the likes of Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo and Risk which still sell in significant numbers today.
Since around 2000 a new breed of "Euro-Game" or "designer game" has arrived on the scene, such as Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne that appear on this site. These are typically family-friendly strategy games based around a theme, well suited to play by social groups up to around 8 people. Some of them have now spawned versions for the iPad. Check out the Wikipedia entry for more details. If you are looking for something different in the board game arena, these are well worth a look.
Don't forget Scalextric!
This is a sister site to the successful Scalextric slotcarcentre.co.uk site, which has been servicing the slot car model motor racing needs of the UK since 2005 and is run by the same company. We operate both stores from our base in Cheddar in Somerset, providing customer service and sending out goods direct from here, not via a dropshipping or fulfilment arrangement.
Scalextric racing has been going since 1957 and is another family-friendly social activity which is back in fashion in the 21st century, and well worth a look if you have car-mad kids in your household!
We are supporting the new Bristol Pound local currency which is available from September 2012. The currency is designed to promote trade amongst small independent retailers in the Bristol area. Find out more at the Bristol Pound web site.
